Aisha re-elected to the Youth Parliament!
‘On 15 February 2010, I was re-elected as a member of the Sheffield United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP). This is a national organisation which enables young people to use their energy and passion to change the world for the better.
This group is run by young people, for young people and gives the young people of the UK between the ages of 11 and 18 a voice. This year in Sheffield there were 15 candidates and in all there were over 10,000 votes casted across the city. I was delighted when Councillor Paul Scrivens (leader of the Sheffield City Council) announced that I had been elected as one of the three members to represent my constituency
In my two year term, I hope to continue representing the young people of Sheffield. In addition to this, I want to tackle the issues I stated in my manifesto such as trying to promote equality around the city and continuing to campaign for anti-bullying action groups.
I look forward to all the opportunities that will come with being a member of the youth parliament (MYP), especially the annual sitting. The annual sitting is a yearly event in which MYPs from across the UK meet to learn new skills such as leadership skills and also meet to debate various issues that affect the young people of today. This year the annual sitting will be held in Northern Ireland and I very much look forward to attending this in July.
As a whole, I’m thrilled to be elected and I’m very excited about what the near future brings!’
